Our client is a reputable engineering company who provide services and technical advice to a range of private and public companies, and they are seeking a Senior/Principal Geotechnical Designer for  their team in Birmingham.
This leadership position is ideal for a geotechnical professional with a strong technical background, who thrives in client-facing roles and enjoys supporting junior staff. You’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of geotechnical designs, while contributing to major infrastructure projects across the UK.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead geotechnical design analysis for earthworks, foundations, and drainage systems.
  • Apply Eurocodes and engineering codes of practice to complex geotechnical challenges.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering professional development.
  • Check, review, and approve design calculations, reports, and drawings to maintain high standards.
  • Utilize industry-standard software (e.g., Slope/W, WALLAP, REPUTE, TEDDS, AutoCAD, Excel) to develop innovative solutions.
  • Interpret ground investigation results and assess stability in earthworks and retaining structures.
  • Conduct client liaison and represent the company at design review meetings, ensuring project requirements are met.
  • Prepare construction specifications, risk assessments, and feasibility studies.
  • Oversee project timelines and ensure efficient resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated design solutions.
  • Play a key role in business development, contributing to proposals and maintaining strong client relationships.
 
Requirements
  • Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering
  • Minimum 6+ years' relevant industry background
  • Extensive track-record in geotechnical design and analysis.
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to mentor junior staff.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in technical and client-facing scenarios.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to review/check work effectively.
  • Background in rail projects is highly desirable.
  • Ability to manage projects, deadlines, and stakeholder expectations.
