The role
Our client is a distinguished, partner-led technical consultancy that holds a prominent standing within the UK’s property and construction landscape, distinguished by a philosophy that balances high-level technical precision with meaningful community impact. They are now recruiting for a Senior Geo-Environmental Engineer, with an openness to appointing at Principal level if the right candidate requires a promotion to move. The role is driven by project management capability, a background with larger, complex, multi-phase projects, and the ability to handle multiple concurrent jobs (up to ~10). You will be working with a degree of independence, under limited supervision from the team leader to manage and deliver projects and you will have responsibility for client liaison and financial and people management within project lifecycles.
The role will also involve both writing and reviewing technical documents such as Phase 1s, Phase 2s, Remediation Strategies and includes occasional site supervision of investigations and construction (including earthworks and remediation), ensuring all activities comply with procedures and the highest safety, health and environmental standards. The chosen candidate may be asked to support the team leader with business development and work winning.
The Leeds office is highly collaborative, social, and benefits from the company’s Employee Ownership Trust structure.
Requirements
Essential
-
Bachelor’s degree in Geology or a related discipline

A good understanding of geology and contaminated land with ground investigation supervision skills, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively within a team.

Background managing larger, complex projects, e.g: Healthcare (multi-month GI, multiple stakeholders), City-centre high-rise, large office developments, Strategic land (coal mining legacy, multi-phase GI, earthworks)

Ability to manage ~10 projects at once (not all intense at the same time, but must be able to dip in/out confidently)

Strong project management capability (this is the primary requirement)

Track record as a Senior Engineer already – they need someone who has already operated at senior level.

Comfortable working in a multi-disciplinary consultancy (understanding boundaries with civils/structures teams)

A consistent focus on health and safety.

Excellent written skills for producing clear, high-quality technical reports,

Strong attention to detail, and willingness to learn

Must hold a full driving licence and be willing to travel and work outdoors.
Desirable

Master’s degree

Chartered or actively working toward chartership (They will support chartership; not a deal-breaker)

Background in a mid-sized consultancy

Client-facing confidence (long-term frameworks, repeat business, stakeholder coordination)
