Senior / Principal Geo-Environmental Engineer: Real autonomy, flourish and progress at this collaborative and supportive Medium-sized Multidisciplinary consultancy. This hybrid role is based in Manchester.

Overview

Our client is a Multi-Disciplinary consultancy offering a range of services including Geo-Environmental, Geotechnical, Remediation and Enabling Earthworks design to a range of high-profile clients across industry sectors such as property development, construction, investment and divestment, industrial, manufacturing, engineering, planning, energy, construction and demolition.
 
They are seeking an ambitious and skilled Senior or Principal Geo-Environmental Engineer to join their Manchester team in a broad, project-led role, managing projects from start to finish, mentoring junior staff, and building strong client relationships across a varied portfolio.
 
You’ll be adaptable, able to operate across both geotechnical and environmental disciplines and open to developing in either direction; and you’ll be a collaborative and personable self-starter, able to balance building a rapport with colleagues and existing clients with getting things done to a high standard and on time.

Responsibilities
  • Report to Associate/Divisional Directors.
  • Manage and develop relationships with key clients, acting as primary point of contact.
  • Apply knowledge of geotechnical, human health and brownfield risks, integrating geotechnical and environmental solutions.
  • Lead and deliver geo-environmental projects through all stages, including:
  • Proposal/tender preparation; financial control
  • Resource and subcontractor management
  • Planning and supervision of site investigations and monitoring
  • Adherence to SHEQ and H&S standards (incl. CPPs and RAMS)
  • Technical review of Phase 1–3 risk assessment
  • Design manage and validate remediation schemes
  • Supervision and verification of remediation
  • Regulator liaison; and timely project delivery.
  • Undertake and review technical assessments (e.g. HHRA, GQRA, DQRA, gas risk), using relevant software and guidance.
  • Produce and technically review interpretative reports to deliver client-focused solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership in contaminated land, geotechnics and environmental risk management.
  • Mentor and support junior staff, including progression toward Chartership, with line management responsibilities.
  • Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Support business development, identify growth opportunities and represent the company at meetings and industry events.
  • Support Associate and Divisional Directors in the development and performance of the geo-environmental team.
 
Requirements
  • Minimum 8 years' relevant background in geo-environmental consultancy (typically 10 –15 years for Principal level).
  • Degree (BSc or MSc) in Geology, Geotechnics, Environmental Science or a related discipline.
  • Chartered with, or actively working towards chartership via, the Geological Society, SocEnv, IES, IEMA or equivalent body.
  • Proven project management background — able to manage multiple projects simultaneously from start to finish.
  • Strong track record in Phase 1/Phase 2 ground investigations, remediation design and environmental risk assessment.
  • Track record in the residential development sector is essential; commercial, highways or public sector background is a bonus.
  • Deep understanding of geotechnical and contaminated land risk.
  • Strong understanding and correct application of relevant British Standards, legislation and industry guidance.
  • Competent in report writing and technical review to a high standard.
  • Good commercial awareness — understands budgets, margins and client value.
  • A car is required for this role.
