Overview
Our client is an established civil, structural and environmental engineering consultancy based in St Helens providing land contamination management services to private and public sector clients in the residential, commercial and industrial property sectors.
They are seeking a Graduate / Geo-Environmental Engineer to play a key role in the day-to-day delivery of a diverse range of projects for the full lifecycle, working closely with team members, project managers and project directors. You will be involved in planning, site work, data interpretation, reporting, and client interaction. This is not a repetitive site only role. You will operate independently, take ownership, and grow quickly in a non-bureaucratic environment.

You will also work closely with the Technical Director, gaining technical mentorship, commercial exposure, and support toward Chartership.

Responsibilities

Project and task management

Management of site investigations
-
Supervision of field work including soil logging and environmental sampling, chemical and geotechnical testing, groundwater sampling and ground gas monitoring

Data collation, review and interpretation

Preparation and review of technical reports including desk studies, ground investigation reports and remediation options appraisals and verification reports.

Site investigation design

Development of client relationships

Ensuring that all work is delivered in line with procedures and to the highest safety, health and environmental standards

Support to early careers professionals

Some travel UK-wide; typical site durations 1–3 days; occasional overnight stays (approximately twice per month)
Requirements
-
Relevant technical degree e.g. chemistry, biology, geology, engineering, or environmental science

Working towards / be prepared to work towards Chartership / Professional Qualification (e.g. QP) with a relevant institution

Knowledge of the requirements for planning, designing and management of site investigations

Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations and their application to safe design and implementation of site investigations

Understanding of the land contamination regime within the UK and the risk-based approach to the assessment of land contamination
-
Report writing including presenting complex technical information in a concise and accurate manner

Data handling, including experience in the use of GIS is desirable

Knowledge of different regulatory regimes, e.g. development planning consenting (TCPA and DCO), environmental permitting, due diligence, nuclear site end states and GRR, environmental impact assessment

Knowledge of specialist technical areas, e.g. quantitative risk assessment, waste/material management, radiological characterisation, hydrogeology, remediation

Full Uk driving licence

Salary £26,000 – £34,000
- Minimum 1– 3 years’ relevant industry background

22 days Annual Leave with office closure on top between Christmas and New Year (3 days)
